Why it belongs
This piece makes sense in my collection because the artist who made it is from a scene of New York musicians that Louis is also from, as well as a bunch of friends of mine. It also feels very much in conversation with a lot of artists from Olana Heise’s generation. There’s a very New York and intergenerational history running through this piece, connecting different creative communities and generations that I’ve been involved with as well, which makes it feel especially meaningful in the context of my collection.
I would hang this piece between two large windows on a blank wall, so the real horizon outside sits on either side of the horizon inside the work. It feels like a piece that wants to be in conversation with the landscape beyond it, blurring the line between the horizon depicted in the image and the one you can actually see.
